Mercedes-Benz boasts that the second generation of GL, which
publicly revealed at this week's New York Auto Show, is "entirely
new." In fact, we have no reason to his claims that this truck
mechanically little doubt in common with its predecessor, the first GL. But
with this truck look more like an extended version of the ML-level platform
"completely new" literally a case of stretching the truth. This would
not be much of a big deal, the last M-and GL-Class also shared a piece,
finally, and we found the previous GL just dandy. But the last ML is a bit of a
setback in the drive department, which has given us a little worried about this
next version of one of our favorite luxury SUVs.
Other than the length of the two Mercedes human traffickers
almost identical dimensionally. Both are 84.3 inches wide and 350 and 450
models have the same wheelbase. (Front tracks 350 and 450 are only 0.3 inches
differs from ML to GL). To fit a third row of seats, stretching the GL rides on
a wheelbase of 6.2 inches and a half a meter longer in general. Outwardly
appear to GL and ML, parts for doors to be, but are otherwise quite different.
The GL is given its own, much more aggressive style, and we must say, it's very
pretty. Front of the crossover has a range of projector lamps and LED light
signatures and a simple two-grille. Increasing rear fender flare starts before
the wheel and then leans in and around the back, it is a familiar design element
in many contemporary Benzes and here is the most successful. For some stylistic
knowledge, the first generation of GL D-pillar design for this new model will
be used again.
The parallels to get back inside ML. The totality of the
GL-cabin look, instrument panel, instrument panel, steering wheel, door panels,
seats, center console and armrest, and buttons, identical to that of the
M-Class. At least it tells us what we expect from the GL-passenger, we love in
general, the materials and the general atmosphere in the smaller ML. Power for
the GL comes from three sources, and distributes it between the shoulders,
GL350, GL450, GL550, and models. The GL350 features a 3.0-liter BlueTec diesel
V-6 makes 240 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque at a loss sharp increases of 210 hp
and 400 lb-ft from the outgoing model GL. The GL450 and GL550 re-use V-8 power,
but this time they get two songs from the same engine: Benz is widely used
twin-turbo 4.7-liter V-8. It makes 362 hp and 406 lb-ft in the GL450, an
increase of 355 hp and 339 lb-ft of his predecessor, atmospheric 4.7. The GL550
now has 429 hp and 516 lb-ft, the previous model atmospheric 5.5-liter V-8 382
HP and 391 lb-ft produced.
All three engines size to a seven-speed automatic
transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel-drive GLS and Airmatic air suspension Benz
come. As is the case for the diesel fuel 350 and 450 are essentially the same
equipment and facilities. Both come standard with 19-inch wheels with optional
20s. MB-Tex Standard Seating is made of faux leather material in the GL350 and
450 since the 2013 GL probably start north of $ 60,000, we would expect that to
be the true doctrine involved. When Mercedes-Benz, there are numerous safety
features and technological gadgets that prevent including active headlights
that turn and dip angle of blinding other drivers to radar cruise control and
lane departure assistance, fully automated parking garage and a motorized
"easy entry" system that from the second row, so that the third to
the passengers. Much of this stuff is one of the plethoras of kit on the GL550
top model.
The prices will be published closer to the GL in September
in the offer date. We do not expect a dramatic increase from the first
generation GL, which at $ 62,445 for the entry-level GL350 BlueTec started and rose
to a stunning $ 86,175 for the GL550. Mercedes-Benz is stirred pitching this
new model not only as a transporter family with luxury, but as a luxury car, in
and of itself: interior refinement is said that the S-Class rivals. The new ML
leans far more to stimulate the direction of weakening, it is a claim we can
see is true. GL or the refinement at the expense of the driving experience, as
in the current ML only seat time and instrumented test will take to find out.
