Chevrolet can not be too happy with the EPA numbers are
small spark. Equipped with the 1.2-liter engine and manual transmission gets
the smallest Chevy in the history of 32 miles per gallon in the city, 38 mpg on
the highway for a combined EPA number of 34. Not bad but not what we are and,
presumably, had hoped for Chevy. Add the optional automatic transmission to be,
and the numbers to 28 cities, 37 highways and a combined number of 32 mpg fall.
When we got the spark at the Geneva Salon in 2009, the spark
was expected to be combined mpg figure, but that may be predictive of a
European rating agency of 47. With its small size and small, 1.2-liter, 85
horsepower engine, it is easy to see the spark in the most efficient. The
equal-sized Smart ForTwo gets an EPA combined number of 36 mpg, while the
larger Hyundai Accent gets to 34.
In fact, do the larger stablemates Spark, Cruze and Eco
Sonic, almost as well equip as well. Both vehicles have a combined 33 mpg with
the turbocharged 1.4-liter and manual transmission. The Sonic breaks even the
40-mpg barrier in highway driving and the Cruze Eco will be even better 42nd the
moral of this story? Looks like a sixth gear makes a huge difference in fuel
consumption. And if you do not mind paying a bit more, you can create a larger
Chevy with better numbers EPO.
