Volkswagen XL1 is the release of the most economical production car in its range of vehicles, which combines, in reality, the 0.9 liter fuel consumption vision. This remarkable efficiency is due to the plug-in hybrid system. This two-seater Volkswagen may also refer to a maximum distance of 50 km in all-electric mode, and therefore produces no local emissions. The model is a rebirth concept study and covers pure sports car design models such as low weight (795 kg), perfect aerodynamics (Cd 0.189) and a lower center of gravity (1,153 mm). This gives the possibility to the conducted on the road at a constant speed of XL1 100 kmh use of 6.2 kW (8.4 hp). And in all-electric mode, the vehicle spends less than 0.1 kWh over a distance of more than one kilometer.
The main features of this model are: high-tech, lightweight, perfects aerodynamics and a plug-in hybrid system. The latter consists of a two cylinder TDI engine (35 kW / 48 PS), E-motor (20 kW / 27 PS), 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DSG) and lithium-ion battery. The XL1 is 3,888 mm long, 1,665 mm wide and just 1,153 mm high. They all contribute to the CO2 emissions of just 21 g/km. The XL1 is about to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.7 seconds on the way to top speed of 160 km/h Conceptually, the XL1, the third evolutionary stage of Volkswagen's 1-liter car strategy.
