Although not set in stone just yet, it seems that after Car
and Driver, BMW, the pungent 3.0-liter six-cylinder pot oil-burner in the new
issue of current-generation F01 7 series, dubbing the car as a 735d or a 740d
according to the output. While this is exciting and groundbreaking in some way
for the American market, we can not get, unfortunately, the F10-550D with high
power (381 hp, 546 ft-lbs) Triple-Turbo version of the above-mentioned
six-cylinder engine.
BMW is the third German manufacturer of diesel to bring
their flagship sedans in the United
States behind the Mercedes S350 BlueTec and
the 2013 Audi A8 3.0 TDI. The reason for not bringing the M550D is just to the U.S.: there is no time in life (market) cycle of
the F10 5-series to the cost of production of U.S. emissions standards to
justify. Four to six years to remain in the life cycle, but apparently that's
not enough to justify the cost of building the necessary mitigation to cover.
This is perhaps a little depressing, but the proof is the idea that BMW, the U.S. is
screaming for more fuel and listening support.
