General Motors confirmed Wednesday that it has a trademark
application in the
Riviera
name that is used by the Buick brand for almost 40 years. The last time we saw
the Buick Riviera was in 2007 at the Shanghai Motor Show in concept form.
Previously, GM sold the full-size
Riviera
from 1963 to 1999 - with a production of more than 1.1 million vehicles. In
1949 the
Riviera
name was used to distinguish Buick Roadmaster cars. Not yet decided spokesman
Nick Richards for Buick has to go back to say the name: "I would not read
too much into this, we are constantly protecting different names.”
